Legoland Review

Well, since Jay wrote his review of the first real Zoop Productions party, I thought I would take a stab at it also. It all started on Saturday, after weeks of preparation, massive promotion and making precautions to ensure the 5-0 wouldn't bust us. Around noon on Saturday the four of us (Tilzs, Jay, JP and I) woke up and set off in our quest to show Rapid City what a 'Rave' is. After some essential equipment was procured, such as the sound system and turntables, we met up in Rockerville to start setting up for the party.

Everything went smoothly until about 5:00 or so rolled around. Tilzs and I were taking a drive through the parking lot when we noticed the Sheriff's car pulling up to the building. We had expected them to show but not this early so we were a bit thrown off, but we approached the car and he stepped out to greet us. He asked us if we were the ones throwing the party here tonight and we said yes, he also took our drivers licenses and checked to make sure we weren't wanted. After that he then commented to us that he had received a 'tip' that a 'rave party' was going to be happening here and he asked us if that was true. When asked what a 'rave party' was the Sheriff replied: "It means there will be Ecstasy there." We promptly told him that there would be no alcohol or drugs at the party and he seemed to become a little friendlier with us. He then asked us a few more questions and then said he would be back later tonight to check things out and then drove off. We all sighed as he left and then got back to work.

After we finished setting up we all drove back to Rapid, and I went to work for a few hours. As soon as work was over I headed back to Rockerville, not sure what the night would had in store. When I arrived at the location, about quarter after nine, everything was just about finished being set up. I helped clean some stuff up and around 9:30 some of the kiddies had already started to show up so I got ready to go spin some records. I waited till about 9:50 to start since Ron and Rich were still setting up the computer with the sweet animation. I played my set as the kids began to fill the space, but no one was dancing till at least 10:30, mostly since there weren't many people there. But when the hard acid tracks started hitting, the kids were out there dancing it up. After I finished up, DJ Tilzs went on and I retired to the kitchen to see how my glowsticks were selling. Apparently while I was spinning the cops showed up and walked through but I'll let someone else write about that since I didn't see it. Throughout the night I heard several complaints about not being able to leave and go drink in cars, but I won't get into that since those people were just dumb anyway. After Rich got the Lego animation up and running I went and checked that out, it was SWEET and the crowd loved it. Props to Rich for creating that piece of work, hopefully he will make something even better for the next party. As far as Raves go, I haven't been to that many real ones but this seemed as close as Rapid could get to a 'Rave'. There weren't many drugs and some people didn't really like the music (obvious by comments and requests) but most were dancing like crazy, which was really cool. During the night we had some problems with the stereo system, I guess the amp was overheating which isn't surprising since that place was pretty hot. But a fan seemed to help out a little in that department, plus some nice person decided to break out a window to cool the place off (The brain cells were in overdrive that night apparently.) Also later in the night some crazy girl decided she would try her hand at scratching during Brian Mohrs set! Our great security man, Zac kicked that bitch and the rest is history.

After DJ Tilzs came Willie then Brian Mohr and after him DJ Kine was supposed to go on but he left for reasons still not fully known to me. Around about 3:00 or so we started to clean up and people started to leave so we finally shut everything down and cleaned the place up fully. The only damage seemed to be the broken window, which was great for us since the next party depends on all the kids being nice to our space. Once all the crap was mopped up and the equipment was stored we headed to Perkins for some breakfast and then back to Brian and Johns house to count up the money. All in all the Legoland was a huge success, and the profits are all going towards our next party coming up in April.
