Gotta give some mad props to the Zoop kids for all the work they did to make a party happen last nite in Rapid City. Showed up at the first location a little after nine, almost ran over a cop standing in the road wearing all black. The only reason I saw him was cuz he had "POLICE" in big white letters on his shirt. If I had known what they were up to I wouldn't have risked a fishtail on gravel to miss him. Anyway, the Zoop kids had the last laugh. They moved the party to another location. They burned the man so to speak...
Props:
Dave Ambient's 5 AM drum n bass set. I'm not too big on that genre usually, but he just went off!
Nate's electro set. Didn't hear a single mistake and I was watching and listening very carefully for most of his set, trying to figure out HOW DO YOU SPIN LIKE THAT?!? Like Nate... If I could be like Nate...
Joey for throwing something different. I like surprises. No diva house from joey last nite...
DMX for scratchin' and other crazy trix like no one else can...
Ryan for throwing gobs and gobs of really hard trance at +8. It would have been really fast at -4. Needless to say my legs felt like jello after about 20 minutes.
The Rapid City cops (as opposed to the state and, rumor has it, federal types who crashed the first location). They showed up at about 6 am, the conversation went something like "is there any alcohol here?", "no", "can you turn it down a little?", "sure", and then they took a quick look around and left.
Ethan for the usual.
James for being James (you always make me smile bro).
Tan Swan- glad I finally met you!
Heather E- quote of the nite: "I'm wearing fuzzy pants because I like when people pet me."
S. for offering to help me tag cop cars with the 4th ammendment: "The right of the people to be secure in their persons, properties, effects, and papers from unreasonable search and seizure shall not be infringed." Kinda long, I'd prolly have to make it wrap all the way around the car. Anyone know where I can find some unattended police cars?
Everyone who was there... I worked the door for several hours and everyone coming in was so friendly.
The Zoop kids for overcoming so much adversity. Most promoters would have called it quits after the first location developed a severe pig infestation.
Evie (a new member of the list) and Colette for putting up with me for the 14 hr drive.
Evie for a really phat back rub during Nate's set. That + some orange juice equalled me somehow managing to stay on the dancefloor the rest of the nite.
The 2 other kids who were groovin' with me during Dave's set. I was so tired I could barely stand up at that point, but Dave's set was so so so so dope, I wasn't about to sit down.
All the nice kids I met last nite. A couple of the SD & Minneapolis kids came up and introduced themselves and when I went to shake their hands they were like, "We give hugs around here." Lots of way way way friendly people.
I was really impressed with the way you guys bounced back. I thought for sure I was gonna have to turn around and go right back to Denver, but you guys really came through in a BIG way. You guys have way more integrity and guts than most of the Denver promoters I'm used to dealing with.
