Oh my god, what a great time we all had in Rapid City, SD on Friday for Topspin. First off, I would like to thank everyone who came to this event. I would like to give an extra special thanks to helped us keep this event semi in control, we couldn't have done it without you.

10 = Awsome
0 = Absolute Shit

Venue 6
-----
We used this venue before for Gravitate on 1/15/99. It's the VFW in downtown Rapid City. It's not a typical "rave" venue, but it worked out REALLY well for a couple of purposes.

1. It has a nice big dance room, the amount of room for dancing about right for out here. You can also go chill in the back and play pool or whatever if you wish.

2. It's the VFW. Cops out here are going to give us the benifit of the doubt for a "bust" when it's at the VFW. I don't care what you say, but cops busting on the VFW isn't going to go over well in this community

3. It has a bar. I'm not too big on the whole bar thing, but out here alcohol = fun. Alcohol is by far the drug of choice. Very little of any other substances going around.

Sound 5
-----
Well, er, it sounded fairly well. Bass thumped fairly well, highs sounded good too. I think it could have been louder and I some of the crowd though so also, it was still sufficient though. There is a limit to the amount of sound that you can blast out of a VFW building.

Problems with the sound consisted of one faulty bassbin causing problem early. Jay just took it out of the system. Other problems was the VFW'scircuits being rated too low for our needs. Blew out the main breaker inwillies set, Jay, moved some cords, problem solved. Blew out the circuit that that bass was running on at least 5 times. That got really anoying, but there was nothing that we could do except draw less current.

Thanks again to Tally for letting us use those extra cabinents...:)

Lights 4
------
Minimal lights were used this time. We had a couple of TV's running the CG that Rich made out here (I love that shit) + other various videos. We also had 1 startek and some christmas lights and black lights.

The lights were nothing spectacular, but it was enough. It was too bad we couldn't accuire the 2 video projectors we had last time, but with the amout of people at this event, I don't think they would have worked well.

DJ's 8
------
Lets just say Spree and Cloudskipper made this party. OH MY GOD. Ya. HH all over the place. Nicely mixed, nicely done. I was also impressed with the Rapid City Native's Kine and Willie. It's really nice to hear them come along, they get better everytime I hear them play. Brian E spun some goa into progressive. My set wasn't my best, I was a bit preoccupied that our HH DJ's hadn't arrived yet and Spree went on in less than an hour.

You can check out all the audio from the party becuase we recorded it. Check it out at

(listen to the crowd go nuts when the mike is on)

Vibe 12
-------
Holy shit! Vibe all over the place. Crowd was going nuts. Tanya, Spree and Cloudskipper brought out 6 dozen whistles (I'm not a big whistle fan), and a crap load of inflatable toys (not sex toys). I bet 80%-90% of the people were dancing the whole time. It was great. They just ate up everything that Spree and Cloudskipper threw at them too. I don't know if I have ever seen this many people having such a good time before. YA! We also had about double the number of people at this event than we expectd (we had about 450). I think it contributed to the vibe, but it also caused some minor problems due to the fact that we were understaffed.

Overall 9.5
-------
I would have given it a 10 if there hadn't been the little fight incident. I heard that someone got hit with a bottle. Some people are just dumb. Cops also came and told us that someone rolled their car that came from our party (drinking). That was right at the end and they didn't do anything (maybe the VFW influence).

It is unfortunate that people can't party responsibly. That is the problem with tix prices and venues. People screw up and then promoters can't use a
venue again.

VFW is out now for us. Cops came, and the VFW doesn't want to deal with Minors & Drinking again. It is unfortunate, but I understand and it is their right.

This means that "Night of the Living Bassheads" will have to be moved.Stay tuned...

Thanks again to the VFW for even letting us throw down there. I had agreat time..
